Essentials of SARS-CoV-2 sequencing and data analysis New e-learning available |
This course is developed by ECDC to provide a beginner level introduction to next generation sequencing technologies with focus on SARS-CoV-2 and showcasing three sequencing technologies (Illumina, IonTorrent and Nanopore) on the Learning Portal.
Who is the course intended for?
This course is designed for laboratory staff who require a beginner level introduction to the topic of next generation sequencing , or any citizens with an interest in this topic. In addition bioinformatic analyses are introduced at the example of SARS-CoV-2 to create a good understanding of the important elements of such analyses and to enable an independent use at beginner level.
What are the learning objectives?
Upon completion of this e-learning course learners will be able to:
• Identify the main elements of a next generation sequencing workflow from specimen to sequence.
• Understand the basic principles of Illumina sequencing.
• Understand the basic principles of IonTorrent sequencing.
• Understand the basic principles of Oxford Nanopore sequencing.
• Recall important elements of sequencing quality control.
• Describe the elements of bioinformatic data analysis.
• Interpret results from several available software for data analysis.
How long is the course?
The estimated time to complete the course is approximatively 3-5 hours.
How can I enrol?
You can access the course for free, thanks to EU funding.
