Welcome to this video on Microbiological investigations in outbreak settings
Date : 15 September 2025
Audience : ELDSNet members
Scope and topics
This webinar was designed following the guidance by ECDC to establish a training plan on Legionella laboratory surveillance methods.
This webinar guides participants through two outbreak investigations focusing on the microbiological methods that were used to established the source of the infection.
Objectives
After participating in this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Describe the key microbiological principles involved in outbreak investigations;
- Explain the role of laboratory diagnostics (e.g., culture PCR, WGS) in confirming the outbreak source;
- Compare the strengths and limitations of various microbiological techniques used in outbreak contexts;
- Interpret laboratory data to support epidemiological hypotheses during an outbreak;
- Evaluate the reliability and relevance of microbiological findings in complex field investigations.
