Avian influenza in human specimens – genomic analyses and experiences from the field

The webinar aims to provide information regarding detection of avian influenza infection in humans including experiences from the field, discussion of recent ECDC EQA results and tools for genomic analysis of avian influenza.

This webinar is conducted by the ECDC and the AURORAE consortium with support by the European Union Reference Laboratory (EURL) for Avian Influenza and Newcastle Disease.

Dates and duration: 2-hour webinar on 20 March 2025 14:00-16:00 CET.

Location: Online.

Audience: The webinar is open to members of the ECDC disease networks for respiratory viruses and is designed for beginner to intermediate learners with previous knowledge of and working experience with laboratory/bioinformatic techniques.

Objectives: After completing this training, the participants should be able to:

    • Understand the concept and relevance of detecting avian influenza in humans
    • Understand the importance of EQAs in the field and describe the state of capacities in the EU/EEA according to latest EQA results
    • Describe exemplary specimen flow and laboratory algorithms for testing
    • Recall and describe available bioinformatic tools for avian influenza sequence analysis

Participation: This training is open only for selected members using a password distributed in an e-mail invitation.
