Aim
The aims of this webinar delivered in 2020 were to present and explain in detail and in a “technically-friendly” way, the importance of mapping in the epidemiology and risk assessment for human and animal vector-borne diseases, together with the correct interpretations of these maps.

The information is presented in short videos and cover the following topics:
Introduction to vector-borne diseases (VBD) and vectors (both with medical and veterinary importance);
Information about why understanding, knowing and monitoring the geographical distribution of vectors is essential to understand the risks for VBD;
Understanding the gaps of knowledge and development of previous projects and how they contributed to accumulation of knowledge
Information on specific vectors (ticks, mosquitoes, sand flies, biting midges), intercalated with how data was collected (literature search, field work)
Information on how maps were created, how they look like and how to access and use them
Information about the utility and interpretation of the maps
Discussion about the limitations of the maps
