Welcome to this video on Diagnostic and detection of Legionella longbeachae
Date : 4 May 2026
Audience : ELDSNet members
Scope and topics
This webinar was designed following the guidance by ECDC to establish a training plan on Legionella laboratory surveillance methods.
This webinar will guide participants through detection and typing of Legionella longbeachae in clinical and environmental samples.
Objectives
After participating in this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Describe the epidemiology, clinical relevance, and transmission pathways of Legionella longbeachae, with emphasis on differences compared to L. pneumophila.
- Explain the specific challenges associated with the detection of L. longbeachae in clinical and environmental samples, including limitations of routine diagnostic assays.
- Compare diagnotic methods for Legionella longbeachae
- Apply the cgMLST scheme for typing of Legionella longbeachae isolates
- Identify appropriate sampling, culture conditions, and molecular methods for the detection of L. longbeachae in environmental samples.
